What’s the big idea?

December 15, 2008 youthinthecorner Leave a comment

I am a fan of big ideas.  I have a huge whiteboard in my office that I doodle on to think up the next big idea in youth ministry in the corner.  I love that God has given us an imagination and creativity and wonder.  That is one reason I love Christmas…I love the look in my girls eyes as they try to grasp the idea of reindeer pulling Santa on a sleigh or as they imagine elves making toys or even as they imagine God being born in a stable.

I love not knowing what’s next but striving to figure it out.  1 Corinthhians 8:2 says “The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know.”  I love that I don’t know anything.  However, I love the pursuit.  As we finish the year it is a natural time to pause and look back at what God has done.  I remember the big ideas that came from our youth ministry team last year.  250 in Alive, 50 baptisms, more high school involvement…we are running over 250, we have baptised over 70 and our high school crowd is now bigger than our middle school crowd!

So, what is the big idea for 2009…we are shifting the services, we are shaking up the band and adding small groups to our Wednesday night experience as well as adding a creative worship experience once a month called Collide.  More info on this is coming.  I am actually now in my office not dwelling on those ideas but asking God.

What’s your next Big Idea?

Tell me what God’s big idea is in your life.

It’s Christmas Time!

christmastime

I had the priveledge of sitting in on a creative meeting with Ricsha and Hope today finalizing some details for the Christmas Program and I have to tell you it is gonna be pretty exciting.  Get you tickets now!  Yes, this year you will need a tickets!  Some people think that is pretensious but it is actually mathematics.  400 butts cannot fit into 350 seats and overflow will not work in this program.  So, get your tickets…tell your friends to get their tickets and get ready for an experience of a lifetime.  Go to www.pointenorth.org for more info on times and come Sunday or drop by the office to get your tix.  Oh and Merry Christmas.

Rhythms

December 2, 2008 youthinthecorner 1 comment

You may have noticed that I am extremely laid back lately.  Well, I started feeling guilty about it until I looked back at some old journal entries and realized that is normal for me in December.  This is generally a pretty low impact time for me.  One thing I have learned to accept is that it is OK!  It is healthy to know your rhythms and know when there are typical down times for you and to actually enjoy them.  Lord knows January is going to be crazy with new programs being implemented and new focuses to give energy to.  Then, I have spring break mission trips and Breakaway will be here before you know it.  So, right now I am enjoying my down time.  I try to help out in the creative dept or read a bit more or just have a few more conversations.

When is your down time?  Do you take advanage of it?

BTW on a side note…all down time is not voluntary, many of my friends have lost jobs recently and some of them have miraculously gotten new jobs right away.  You may or may not know Bobby Webster.  He lost his job about a month ago and has recently started a freight company.  If you know someone in the shipping/traffic line of work that could help him get this off the ground email him at webster2r@yahoo.com.  Otherwise keep him and others who are without work right now in your prayers.
